Sinopse – A Drink Named Tequila

Tequila is a strong drink and evokes in Mexicans a great sense of national pride. To many, national celebrations, for example, acquire enhanced value and joy when accompanied by a tequila. The same might be said for several regional drinks but in Jalisco tequila coincides with other defining elements: Mexican horsemanship, or charrería and mariachi music. In addition, tequila, whether white (blanco), mature (reposado) or aged (aсejo), has the virtue of being equally enjoyable with any of several different mixes, or simply "straight". However it is served, brands complying with the official Mexican government standards for quality are to be preferred. There were times when, owing to corruption, these standards became "flexible". Fortunately, today, large plantations of tequila agave guarantee that no scarcity can occur and that the preference of consumers can be indulged in ever-higher purity and quality. It is to be hoped that this short work serves to encourage the tequila industry and to acknowledge those who historically defended, and those who today continue to defend, our national drink.
